History

Fondazione Modena Arti Visive came into being in October 2017, upon the initiative of the Municipality of Modena and Fondazione di Modena, taking up the legacy and cultural heritage of the three institutions that merged into it: Galleria Civica di Modena, Fondazione Fotografia di Modena and Museo della Figurina.

On one hand, the foundation works to promote the use and image of the collections that it manages, through both exhibitions and training and teaching activities; on the other hand, it offers a programme of events revolving around contemporary visual cultures.

Since 2017, its initiatives have included numerous exhibitions, such as Vero o Falso?Le figurine sotto la lente di ingrandimento della scienza, Pop Therapy.Lo spirito rivoluzionario delle figurine Panini and A cosa serve l’utopia, in addition to solo exhibitions featuring Cesare Leonardi, Ad Reinardt, Sharon Lockhart, Adelita Husni-Bay, Ryochi Kurokawa, Jon Rafman, Franco Fontana, Yael Bartana and Kenro Izu.

Its education programme includes the Icon master’s course for curators, whose main focus is on photography and the moving image, on offer at the FMAV School of Advanced Studies. The foundation also promotes numerous workshops and short courses for professionals and the public, as well as a continual teaching programme for schools.
