Fondazione Modena Arti Visive has an internal restoration service, also open to the public, for the restoration of original photographs (negatives and positives) that require cleaning, reinforcing and flattening, so that the objects can regain optimum stability.
Photographs can be stored in Fondazione Modena Arti Visive’s climate-controlled archives through donations or storage agreements. They can also be catalogued and made permanently available for consultation. This can guarantee the correct conservation of the photographic material and, if so desired, use by a wider public.
All of the contemporary and historical photographs either owned or stored by Fondazione Modena Arti Visive are conserved, according to ministerial standards, in archives with controlled temperatures and humidity levels. Alongside these conservation procedures, in the event of exhibitions temperature and lighting checks are carried out in the exhibition venues and the photographs are prepared for display (with protective passepartouts[KEW1] , packaging, condition reports) while for storage, the photographs are cleaned and placed in protective packaging.
In all the photographic fonds study phases – from stocktaking to digitalization and cataloguing – Fondazione Modena Arti Visive follows the file F (photograph file) ministerial standards. The cards, which include the data and a digital reproduction of the image, are made available for consultation.
