Broken Secrets is the exhibition curated by Javiera Luisina Cadiz Bedini coming about from the European project Parallel - European Photo Based Platform, a platform for artists and curators with a focus on photography, aimed at promoting a fluid and functional connection between them and potential exhibition institutions and events (museums, galleries, festivals). Created in 2017, Parallel, supported by the Creative Europe programme and devised by Procur.arte, cultural association with headquarters in Lisbon, brings together 18 creative organizations from 16 European countries that are involved in promoting intercultural exchanges and tutoring to set new standards in contemporary photography.
The exhibition contains the works of four young artists, Georgs Avetisjans, Yuxin Jiang, George Selley and Negar Yaghmaian, who through photographs, audio and video explore the ways in which secrets are confided and kept and what is released (or shattered) inside us when the truth is revealed. Broken Secrets investigates the personal sphere but also wider issues such as militarism, migration and oppression, with the realities that resurface leading to a re-examination of the boundaries of historical and political representations.
